We formed our AZ NICA Composite Team to serve student athletes in the Southeast Valley, that do not have an interscholastic MTB team at their school. Our composite team serves independent student athletes during the Spring NICA Season that will run from November 2024 - May 2025. We accept all skill levels, from brand new to seasoned riders, everyone rides, learns new skills, and has FUN!
NEW RIDERS: Please contact us so we can determine your student-athlete's eligibility HERE.
TEAM REQUIREMENTS: As long as a 6th-12th grade student athlete attends a school with no MTB team AND attends a school in our boundary (East of Cooper Rd/South of Ray Rd), they are eligible to join our Composite team.
Our composite team is a completely separate team from our Foundre̅ Racing Team that runs from November - May that races the MBAA Race Series.
REGISTRATION: Student-athletes can register for our team and the league from 10/15 - 10/31/24. Practices will start on November 3rd, 2024.
TEAM COSTS: Thanks to our amazing local sponsors, a large portion of the cost to run our team has been covered. However, our riders and their families are required to cover their Matrix MTB Team and AZ NICA League Fees.
We do not want cost to be a barrier of entry. If you need to discuss financial assistance in more detail, please reach out to us HERE!
PRACTICE: We have a 2-3 day a week practice schedule. Most practices will take place at San Tan, Hawes, Usery, as well as other areas to test our riders' skills and to mix things up.
RACES: There are 5 races where our team will compete against other Arizona schools in the state.
COACHES: Our coaches are all volunteers, most of whom are parents of our student athletes, but we also have some awesome members of the cycling community that selflessly volunteer their time to work with our team. We could not run this team without these amazing individuals. All coaches are required to complete background checks and complete additional training through NICA in order to mitigate safety risks and create an equitable environment for all levels of riders at our practices.
If you are interested in coaching, please let us know! NICA provides all of the online and in person training that you need. You can find more information HERE!
VOLUNTEERS: If you do not want to coach, but want to help the team in some way, we can still use you for the following (and then some!):
TEAM COMMUNICATION:
All team communication takes place in Slack (desktop and mobile downloads available). Once team registration concludes, we will send all team members an invite to join our Slack Channel. We encourage both riders and their parents to join, as it will be critical to stay up to date with practice information, team updates, team fun, etc.
